If you’re looking for a Mega Man themed rock opera or some Nerdcore Hip Hop, PAX Australia will not disappoint in 2013.
American rock band The Protomen and the worlds 579th greatest rapper MC Frontalot have been confirmed as coming down under for The Penny Arcade Expo Australia to make sweet music love to the ears of nerds and geeks attending.
The Protomen
Best known for composing concept albums based around the Mega Man series, The Protomen are a mix of rock, synth and distortion.
The Protomen’s core work Act I (The Protomen) and Act II (The Father of Death) are inspired by the early NES Mega Man games. Dr Willy rules a dystopian future full of humans too scared to stand up against his control.
Dr Thomas Light creates Protoman, the “Perfect man, an unbeatable machine” to fight Dr Wily’s armies. Years later, Dr Light creates a second son Megaman who runs away from home to continue the fight Dr Light wants to give up on.
Some of their music has even been used in Video Game High School to set the tone in more geek culture than you can aim a Mega Buster at.
A song from their upcoming Act III was played at PAX 2012 so hopefully Australian geeks will also get a taste of what’s to come when they rock Melbourne in July.
MC Frontalot
Damian Hess known as MC Frontalot is a veteran to performing at Penny Arcade Expos since 2004 and has had his music featured in the Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness.
Credited with branding the Nerdcore genre with his song “Nerdcore Hiphop”, MC Frontalot has become a huge hit in the geek world. Hess acknowledges that when the Penny Arcade creators directed fans to his website his popularity sky-rocketed.
Not content to just rap his songs such as, the Penny Arcade Theme, Critical Hit, Pr0n S0ng and Final Boss, Frontalot has also appeared in the Sesame Street movie Elmo’s Potty Time.
