[PAX AUS] Halfbrick Studios – Colossatron Massive World Threat

Halfbrick Studios Presents

Brisbane developer of Fruit Ninja, Jetpack Joyride and Fish Out of Water chose PAX Australia as the first place to announce their latest game.

While Ron Gilbert was giving a story time in the Main theatre, history was being made in the Dropbear room. Phil Larsen and the rest of Halfbrick team started with a brief history of the Brisbane studio. Fruit Ninja, Jetpack Joyride and Fish Out of Water have all been successful in their own right.

Their next big game on show was…

Colossatron

Players take control of a modular robotic alien dragon, using all manner of upgradeable weapons and abilities to wreak wanton top-down chaos on an unsuspecting populace. The goal? Causing as much property damage as possible.

Halfbrick was showcasing this game on eight iPads all hooked up to a replica of Colossatron’s modular pieces. A counter was keeping track on the total dollar value that players were able to destroy Godzilla style.

It’s an interesting take, instead of being the hero, you are the big bad boss. The game-play is simple enough, drag modules onto your snake-like body to increase your power. Three primary colours of Blue, Yellow and Red are available, merging them together in combinations creates Purple, Green and Orange. Each colour is either a different type of weapon or defence, green seemed to heal for example. Match up three of the same colour next to each other and they merge into a more powerful single module.

Colossatron
There’s a uh, big machine in the sky, some kind of, I dunno, electric snake, coming straight at us.

Colossatron: Massive World Threat is the story of the biggest and most powerful being to ever wage war against mankind, with a unique style reminiscent of the craziest anime and cartoons of the 80s. And this time, the power is in the hands of the players in the ultimate role reversal, as they take control of Colossatron and wreak havoc across the globe!

From the unknown depths of space, the gargantuan robotic snake Colossatron crash-lands on Earth with no purpose other than causing ultimate chaos. With all the action being covered live by Rick Dalton and Katie Hazard of Metro 6 Action News, players must build and shape Colossatron to become an unstoppable force of destruction.

Colossatron does not have a release date yet though we have been told to expect its official launch before the end of the year on iOS and on Android later.
