Fallout 4 Screenshot Comparison With Fallout 3 Side By Side

Fallout 4 has been confirmed by Bethesda during an amazing E3 conference. Fans of the series have been blown away by what was on display.

Now we shouldn’t get too excited about graphics shown off at E3 because we’ve been burned by that before. We were interested to see what Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 look like side by side.

So take a look at the images below (you can click to enlarge them) and get a feel for how far visuals have come in 6 or so years. Be sure to let us know in the comments below what you think of Fallout 4 so far.

You can currently Pre-Order Fallout 4 on Amazon and GreenmanGaming.

The Dogs

You’ll get a friendly companion pretty much from the get go in Fallout 4, fans of Dogmeat rejoice. Those who were upset about being unable to kill children in Skyrim may be upset that you can’t kill your dog either… and those people have no souls.

This time the dog will take commands such as, “Fetch” and “Go Here”, so that’s somewhat exciting. The Wasteland can get lonely, but I’d like to be able to customise my dog if possible.

Mister Handy

Mister Handy are utility robots created as part of a joint project between General Atomics International and RobCo Industries. From the Fallout 4 trailer we know that the protagonist has a Mr Handy and is even recognised when they make their way home.

The most important thing about a Mister Handy that can’t be conveyed in pictures alone is the great voice work that really brings the robots to life. Can robots be brought to life?

Power Armor

Power Armor seems to have a huge update in Fallout 4. It’s customisable to a degree and has a new interface. There are even Jetpacks on display in the trailer.

There may even be limitations to the power armor we haven’t seen yet, it doesn’t seem like something you’d be using at all times. I suppose we’ll have to wait and see come November.

People in Fallout 4 may have used some kind of lead based paint to keep their decorations mostly in tact after the bombs dropped. Some of the electronics seemed to have survived as well, though the programming leaves something to be desired.

We see a shift in asthetic to a bit more colour in this generation of Fallout game. From the shells of cars, children’s books and even furniture survived without turning too brown.

PipBoy

What would a wasteland adventurer be without a trusty PipBoy? How are you going to know if you’re missing limbs without a helpful interface to keep you updated. We’ve been promised mini games playable on the PipBoy this time around along with more animation on the menus.

This continues a trend recently seen in Tom Clancy’s: The Division where the menu are designed to add to immersion.

The Fat Man

According the the Wiki: The Fat Man is a pre-War heavy weapon that launches mini nukes. The mini nuke projectile is very heavy, and if simply fired straight ahead, it will travel only a short distance before falling to the ground and detonating (causing you to be caught well within the very damaging mini-nuclear blast).

There’s something facinating about finding a tall vantage point a looking out over the wasteland. In Fallout 4 it looks like we’ll get a bit more of a view.

When you need to dress to impress, Fallout has often given you all sorts of options to choose from. None of these look like they’ll be hitting stores any time soon, but you’ve gotta make do in the Wasteland.

Don’t forget to take a stroll through the broken towns of a civilization lost to the ravages of war and nuclear fallout. Weather you’re from Vault 101, Vault 111 or fresh from New Vegas you’ll be able to enjoy the crunch of irradiated rock beneath your feet.

It looks like Fallout 4 has gone for a bit more colour in this iteration of the series. Perhaps we’re past the grey and brown days of the Fallout 3 and Gears of War generation.
