What We’ve Been Playing MOBA Time

This week we are very excited to have a new editor on-board, but I’ll leave him to do the formal introductions next week. There has being a massive focus on the online competitive scene with news of CBS Interactive partnering up with MLG.

Also some of the guys in the team have been intertwined in furious debates as to which is better DotA 2, LoL or HoN. But never fear in between the heated arguments we did manage to squeeze in some video game time too.

Daniel:

Bouncing back and forth between Dota 2 and Heroes of Newerth, trying to figure out which MOBA game is for me. Each has unqiue features that I enjoy but both also have their flaws. I’ve yet to watch many competitive matches for DotA 2 but already find the HoN spectator mode a lot nicer.

The rest of my time is taken up by more Mass Effect 3. I have been running and gunning through the multiplayer having great fun being carried by randoms with higher levels than mine. I’m trying to do all the side-missions I can before the end because I heard that the ending may be disappointing.

Mr Port:

This week’s been all about the retro for me, downloaded Final Fantasy IX off the PSN and I’ve been obsessively glued to it to the point I forget to blink sometimes. Dawn of War: Soulstorm also featured quite a lot, as well as the far superior Dawn Of War 2, which people should get on because its awesome. Keeping in the Warhammer trend, I may have dabbled in a little Space Marine for a quiet hands on session with a chainsword and some Ork face.

Senior Stiv:

Sadly most of my week wasn’t filled as much gaming as I’d like. Last week my Xbox 360 disc tray decided to finally stop opening and had to get it fixed. In the mean time I’ve been putting my PC and Steam to good use with some Elder Scrolls: Oblivion and Unreal Tournament.

Now that it’s fixed I’ve been putting in some hours into Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning. The combat is satisfying and looting is a blast. But seriously the combat is nuts. The story is pretty good too. Did I mention combat was awesome? Expect a full review sometime soon.

Emma K:

This week has being a lot of dabbling in different games but not sticking to much for a long period of time. Age of Empire: Online is still appeasing me, admittedly I am a sucker for anything that involves questing and levelling up. Which is perhaps another reason why I’ve gotten back into Aion, the now free-to-play, MMORPG. Everything’s so pretty!

I must make it my mission to finish off L.A Noire this weekend. Absolutely loving the 50’s style, story-driven missions and the detail gone into making of the game is still astounding. Also lastly on my Android phone started playing some Death Rally, which I’m not sure I like or not yet. The use of virtual joysticks I’m not completely sold on.

Blueonblue:

This week I’ve had quite a lot going on in my gaming world. I always love playing StarCraft and the quality of professional games has just been incredible of recent. I bought a copy of Modern Warfare 3 for sh*ts and giggles while League of Legends and the Diablo and DoTA betas have also been getting a whirl.

I must say I still far prefer LoL to either HoN or DoTA2. League of Legends forever man!
