PAX East 2014: Six Video Game Maestros And Their Music

With PAX East only a few months away from coming to Boston, Ma here in the United States, there are already a plethora of panels worth seeing. One of the most recent panels to come up is “Maestros of Video Games” about one of the more under appreciate aspects of video games: Music.

The panel will feature six of the industry’s music composers, who have worked on some of the biggest franchises and video game series out there. Garry Schyman, Peter McConnell, Cris Velasco, Tom Salta, Mark Morgan, and Billy Martin will all be attendance to explaintheir techniques for creating music for games such as Bioshock Infinite and Borderlands

Garry Schyman

Garry Schyman has provided the intense music for the entire Bioshock series as well as the mediocre Dante’s Inferno. He has also worked on Destroy All Humans!

Cris Velasco

Cris Velascohas provided some of the dissonant and thumping sounds of the Borderlands series come from his very musical talent. Velasco has also been involved with Company of Heroes 2 and even movies such as “Beowulf”.

Tom Salta

Someone has to be behind the intense orchestral music of Halo: Spartan Assault and that man is Tom Salta. Salta has also provided music for Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier and even the underrated Red Steel for the Wii.

Peter McConnell

Peter McConnell has worked on several of Lucasarts projects before the company closed. Most notably is his work on the Sly Cooper series since its second iteration.

Mark Morgan

Mark Morgan doesn’t have the most noteworthy titles under his belt, but has worked on Wasteland 2 the long awaited sequel to the 1998 classic. Coincidentally, he also worked on Fallout 1 and 2. At the moment he’s working on Torment: Tides of Numenera

Billy Martin

Billy Martin has been providing the music to Rayman: Origins and Rayman: Legends. He also composed the music for the mobile title Rayman Fiesta Run.

There is plenty more to look forward to and if everything goes as planned I’ll be there this April to report on the convention for Non-Fiction Gaming! I’ll be posting more on the convention for the time being and keeping all of you fine readers posted on the possibility of going to PAX East.
