Batman: Arkham Knight confirmed for 2014

Warner Bros. have announced that the fourth and final game in the Arkham series; Batman: Arkham Knight will be coming out sometime this year.

The Bat is back.

The reveal was somewhat spoiled by an early GAME UK leak, nevertheless fans of the Arkham saga will be treated to a brand new, next-gen Batman experience, and yes, you will be able to drive the Batmobile.

WB have also brought back English game developers Rocksteady who made the first two Batman: Arkham games, which were arguably the best in the series. It will be interesting to see where the game falls in terms of time-line as last year’s Batman: Arkham Origins was a prequel to the previous Arkham Asylum and Arkham City titles, however the trailer indicates that the game could be a follow on from Arkham City as it shows Gotham in chaos, and does not include a certain nemesis of the Caped Crusader.

The previous games have featured a dynamic ‘open world’ map, in which Bats can glide around taking out bad guys as he goes about cleaning up the streets of Gotham, and Batman: Arkham Knight will be no different in that sense, just bigger and prettier. The game will also more than likely feature some of Batman’s most challenging foes such as The Joker, Penguin, Bane and Two-Face.

The game comes after the considerable disappointment of Origins, which had us all feeling like we’d played it before (apart from the different villains and quests), as it used most of the same gameplay and combat features we are used to seeing by now in a Batman game. Hopefully the next chapter in the Arkham games will bring something new and fresh to the series.
