Edward Kenway

Players will take control of Edward Kenway, Father of Haytham Kenway and grandfather of Conner Kenway. The game will be now be set in the Caribbean of 1715 in a world associated with pirates.

A privateer turned buccaneer when he finds himself out of work, Edward Kenway is described as a drunken, brash, rebellious fellow who just also happens to be highly intelligent and rather charismatic.

This type of character sound quite familiar to a young Ezio Auditore da Firenze, considered the most popular protagonist the series has had. After being thrown out of the Royal Navy, Kenway’s character is likely to progress through Black Flag from a devil-may-care attitude to a committed agent in the Assassins Vs Templar war.

“With the new hero and new setting we are creating the boldest and most unique Assassin’s Creed game yet, while still respecting the pillars of the franchise that have made it such a fan favourite,” said Yves Guillemot, chief executive officer at Ubisoft. “Assassin’s Creed IV Black Flag is based on a true, harsh and exciting part of a legendary era and will thrill longtime fans and newcomers alike.”

This ‘true’ portion of history means we are unlikely to see any Kraken, Mermaids or undead ships captained by Geoffrey Rush. What we are promised are interactions with notable historic names like: Blackbeard, Calico Jack and Charles Vane.

In development for nearly two years, the Assassins’s Creed team from Ubisoft Montreal has packed in all sorts of new experiences for the latest in the AC franchise. You’ll still have all the running, climbing and stabbing you need from Assassin’s Creed IV

More upgrades for your trusty ship, ‘Jackdaw’ to help wrest control of the seas in naval battles. There should also be more variety with players able to destroy, board or even sneak aboard enemy ships to take out enemy captains.

While sneaking to the enemy ship underwater, there’s nothing wrong with stopping for treasure.

Not much is known about the ‘present day’ storyline that usually accompanies a trip in the Animus. In a Q&A with All Games Beta, creative director Jean Guesdon explains that whilst you will not play as Desmond,

“(He) will be referred to as a very important legacy of the AC universe.”
