Excited for E3 2013

E3 2013

This week, the crew reveals what we want to see at E3 2013. Some of us are gearing up for a new console war between Sony and Microsoft while others just want to know what games are coming on the horizon.

This is going to be a big E3 2013 with Xbox one and PS4 announcements galore. I’m looking forward to hearing some of the finer details of each console in addition to what games they have lined up.

The other big name in gaming, Nintendo, has also caught my ear. I had high hopes for both the Wii U and 3DS but have been unimpressed by the software available thus far and with a little bit of luck Nintendo has Metroid, Zelda and Smash Brothers aces up their sleeve in addition to new franchises.

The last and possibly most important item on my E3 2013 to follow list is Transistor by Supergiant Games. Anyone that had read my articles or knows me in person will know of my fondness for their last game, Bastion, and I look forward to seeing another high quality adventure and another outstanding soundtrack by Darren Korb.

I do always look forward to E3 every year and always nerd it up to watch all the big players conferences. I’ll be disappointed not to see Nintendo present anything and I get the impression it is a sign that there is not much ahead for the Wii U.

For Microsoft and Sony I’m looking forward to learning more about their upcoming consoles. Both companies are keeping it vague and light on the details as if to spread out the anticipation for as long as possible. Although it could be backfiring with a large amount of negative comments being made which both parties are neither confirming nor denying.

Aside from the consoles I love watching the new trailers for up and coming new IP that has never been done before. As of late the market has been saturated with sequels and follow up games and any new IP that has a captivating story line gets me excited.

And lastly some games that I can not wait to see are; Dragon Age 3, Batman: Arkham Origins, Pokemon: X/Y, and South Park: The Stick of Truth.

Ah E3 2013. I feel like I should be more excited about the PS4 or Xbox One but neither console has shown me anything I’m particularly interested in. PS4 has a share button which is kind of nifty but I’m not sure how I would use it, and Xbox One has TV services that won’t be available outside of America. As other people have pointed out, TV services are something that is available on the Wii U which are also unavailable to us Australians.

I was looking forward to a possible console reveal from Valve for the rumoured Steam Box, but recent news has confirmed they will not be exhibiting anything at E3.

After finding that out, the main thing I want to see is some good software for the Wii U and 3DS, especially the two versions of Smash Brothers that will be presented. I also wouldn’t mind seeing more of some titles mentioned in earlier Nintendo Directs, specifically the Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem game and the Monolith Software (creators of Xenoblade Chronicles) currently in development.

Well after the big Xbox One reveal I think we definitely need to see some more, TV, sports and Call Of Duty from Microsoft.

In all seriousness though, I want to see Microsoft convince me of some solid reasons as to invest in an Xbox One, rather than save some cash by purchasing a HDMI cable and connecting my laptop to my TV. Some good solid exclusives are required from their camp if they hope to fan some flames of excitement.

On the Nintendo front I want to see some Smash Bros and whatever it is that Retro studios have been rumoured to be working on in secret. Hopefully a new IP too. Either way I think they need to show up with a big hitter, like The Legend Of Zelda or Metroid.

As for Sony, I just don’t know… I already know it’s the next system I’ll purchase simply because they’ve got some impressive IPs under their belt already.

Most of all though, I just want to see some originality from someone. I just don’t care about graphics anymore. Sure, we’ll be getting to photo-realistic levels of detail soon but I’m so very tired of brown and gritty. Bioshock Infinite was incredibly colourful and still manages to deliver excellent, adult content.

Finally, on a more serious note, I do not want to see booth babes. The industry is in a position where it needs to grow up. 14 year old boys are no longer the key demographic and the objectification of women at the event, for me at least, is a cringe worthy reminder of the less than mature attitude of our beloved past time. It’s time we see some changes in the industry, in regards to integrity, artistic merits and equality.

My eyes will be hunting for the quiet acheivers at this years E3 2013. I was hoping to get excited for the next generation of consoles. The reveals and teasers of hardware specs have left me a little jaded. Fingers are still crossed that Nintendo pulls out some kind of stealth attack like a Pokemon game for the Wii U featuring open world and rpg story elements. Unlikely because they aren’t having a big presentation like Microsoft and Sony, but a boy can dream right?

I don’t even have a Wii U and I’m already reaching for my wallet.

Speaking of announcements out of nowhere, Watch_Dogs was my favourite suprise from E3 2012 thanks to Ubisoft. I’m torn between wanting to know more about this game and risking spoilers or just playing it knowing as little as possible. Watch_Dogs looks awesome so far, it’s been announced for the next gen consoles but I’ll be hoping for a PC version.

What are you looking forward to seeing at E3 2013? Let us know in the comments below or on Facebook and Twitter.

We’ll make sure to keep you updated on the big announcements but tell us if there’s something specific we should watch out for.
