Studio Grow Has Launched A Kickstarter For Their Online Class-Based Brawler ‘Grow’
Earlier this year we got a hands on a Pre-Alpha build of Grow in the Pax Australia Indie Pavilion. The game was colourful and fast paced, whilst I didn’t always know what I was doing while playing I had a great time.
After getting some great feedback the Four-Man team has launched a Kickstarter campaign to make their dream a reality. The brawler plays like a combination between Team Fortress 2, Pokemon and Natural Selection 2 with players choosing what food to consume and pathways to evolve into.
Since PAX Australia, Studio Grow has refined some of its artwork and graphics adding to the quality of what seemed like a solid game idea.
With each life you start out as a ‘Nom’ which is kind of tadpole larval form, by eating the different food available in the level you can evolve or transform. Similar to the vertical scrolling shooters where different coloured power ups would give you different abilities, the power ups in Grow come from Meat, Candy and Fruit.
Eat meat and you’ll ‘Grow’ into a power character that can take a lot of punishment. Candy will put you into a form that is faster and specialises in hit and run tactics. Fruit will give you more abilities like healing or shielding, your new form also provides ways to use the water in each level to your advantage.
Whilst the game is mostly just about destroying your friends(enemies) the guys at Studio Grow are also working on a Capture the Egg(Flag) mode and Golden Idol.
